We’re excited to share the completion of our upholstery renovation for the 5 Commune Building—a vibrant space that’s a core part of the hotel’s unique desert vibe.
A Bold Vision for Ace Hotel Palm SpringsAce Hotel Palm Springs has long been known for its eclectic, laid-back style that perfectly blends retro charm with modern design. The Commune Building, a key gathering place within the hotel, is where creativity meets community. When Ace Hotel approached us to refresh the upholstery across all five Commune areas, we knew we had to deliver something special.
The design brief was simple yet challenging: maintain the hotel’s signature mid-century modern aesthetic, while updating the seating to withstand the desert climate and provide ultimate comfort to guests.
Our Approach to the RenovationFor this project, we focused on achieving three key objectives:

1. Durability with Style: The harsh desert climate in Palm Springs can be tough on upholstery. We sourced high-quality, weather-resistant fabrics that would not only look great but also withstand the dry heat and UV exposure. From sun-soaked terraces to cool indoor lounges, each fabric selection was chosen for its ability to endure while maintaining a sophisticated look.
   
2. Comfort Meets Design: A place like the Ace Hotel thrives on creating spaces where guests feel comfortable enough to relax and linger. We worked closely with the design team to ensure that the new upholstery would enhance the overall vibe of the Commune while offering superior comfort. The new cushions and padded elements are plush yet supportive, inviting guests to kick back and enjoy the atmosphere.
   
3. Respecting the Character of the Space: The Ace Hotel has a distinct personality—quirky, cool, and always welcoming. It was important for us to reflect that in our work. Each piece of upholstery was custom-tailored to the space, ensuring the colors, textures, and patterns harmonized with the existing décor. We embraced vintage-inspired designs but gave them a contemporary twist to keep the hotel feeling fresh and inviting.
   

Behind the Scenes: Crafting a Custom ExperienceOur team spent countless hours in the workshop, handcrafting each piece of furniture to meet the hotel's high standards. We reupholstered a variety of seating options, from lounge chairs and benches to communal seating areas that can handle high traffic while remaining stylish and comfortable.
Additionally, we focused on sustainability, using eco-friendly materials where possible without sacrificing durability or aesthetic appeal. By the time we installed the final pieces, the 5 Commune Building had been given a new lease on life—one that is both functional and stylish, ready for the next wave of visitors to enjoy.
The Final Result: A Space TransformedWe’re incredibly proud of the results of this project. The new upholstery across the 5 Commune Building has breathed fresh life into the space, while still retaining that unique Ace Hotel Palm Springs charm. Whether guests are lounging by the pool, sipping cocktails in the courtyard, or gathering for an event, they’ll now do so in comfort and style, thanks to the revamped seating.
